Vintage Trend We're Loving: Fruit Salad

Is it weird to love a trend that already happened?  Not really--since we know fashion is a cycle, and so many trends come around again and again (hello, NEON!).

I have recently fallen in love with fruit.  Not the actual good-for-you, tasty stuff--although it's good too--but fruit motifs: on dresses, skirts, home decor, etc.  If you saw Tuesday's post, I recently bought a cherry print dress, and ever since, I have been noticing a lot of super cute vintage pieces that are totally fruity.  (And yeah, I did just go there.)

strawberry sundress, $115 via Thrush  ///  apple print skirt, $32 via CapriciousTraveler

cherry sundress, $35 via bookwormvintage  ///  fruit bowl maxi dress, $42 via TheVintageMistress

fruit salad necklace, $50 via MamaVendredi  /// fruit cocktail velvet milliner hat, $85 via StacyLeighAtelier

disco fruit platforms (AH-MAZING!), $325 via AtomicPassion  /// strawberry flats, $50 via 80sman

OJ pitcher and glasses, $25 via Poplar Street Vintage  ///Vera Neumann cloth napkins, $20 via heatherkojan

I have so many favorites here...good thing they're all saved in my Etsy faves!

What's your take on the fruit trend? Too cutesy? Only in small doses?

Amanda

Celebrity Looks for Less: Casual In the City

celeb looks banner

I am definitely a big fan of dressing like you didn't try too hard (when really you've slaved over your closet for hours, trying to find the right combinations of pieces that make you look effortlessly chic).  I have a feeling these celebrities really didn't have to think much about their looks, seeing as they both probably own a massive wardrobe full of cool clothes.  Or maybe they're just really good at the whole "effortlessly chic" thing.  Either way, here are the Miskabelle versions of their outfits--we've done the work for you!

Sarah Jessica Parker
This is most likely her "mom" attire.  Even dressing so sloppily she looks so darn cool! (It's not fair.)  A simple button front midi skirt, a lightweight top and sandals (our version are flat, pretty sure she's wearing wedges/heels).

Emma Roberts
This girl certainly has a questionable style--a bit rough around the edges.  Not too put together.  But I sort of dig it (minus the entire time she was at Coachella and walked around pretty much half naked).  An oversized button up top and high waist denim shorts paired with platforms??  It somehow works.

All pieces of these looks are for sale in the SHOP now!  And all under $50 a pop!

And can we just all agree that this hot weather needs to take a little breather now??  I would love to try one of these outfits but instead I think I'll stay at home and sit around in my underwear under the ceiling fan.

{How to Wear} Spring Trends: Full Skirt

Sometimes when new trends come about I feel like they fit perfectly into my wardrobe, like a missing puzzle piece.  Skinny jeans?  PERFECT for wearing with all my favorite boots!  High waisted skirts?  PERFECT for covering the tummy bulge!  But sometimes up and coming trends are more questionable.  I wonder...."Can I wear this without looking totally ridiculous?"  In the next few weeks, Amanda and I are going to show you some tips for how to style some of the more difficult-to-wear spring trends.

Spring Trend 1--The Full Skirt
I feel like the popularity of Mad Men has really played a big influence in a lot of new trends, including this one.  I love the idea of camouflage for the hips--but was worried it would make my stumpy legs look even shorter.  Here's how I styled it:

Miskabelle Black and White Plaid Skirt, $20

A couple of things to keep in mind when trying out this trend:
1.  Pair with a fitted shirt to balance out the volume on the bottom half. (Miskabelle lace shirt, $14)
2.  The taller the shoes, the better!  Especially with a longer, tea-length skirt (like the one pictured above).
3.  A polished pony tail keeps it fun and lady-like.

I think this might just become my summer staple....

Spring Dreaming (on such a winter's day)

I am staring out the window at crazy swirling snowflakes, covered pine trees, and bundled up folks who are still diligent enough to take their pets out for a walk in the cold...here in the northeast, it seems as though the snow will never stop, like we'll never see green grass again (or sunshine for that matter). So this morning I spent some time dreaming about the upcoming season, pretty things I want to wear once everything thaws...

Some trends I'm really loving for spring, as reflected in these Etsy picks:
  • full skirts
  • fun, ladylike florals (always on trend for spring!)
  • clogs/wooden heels
  • cutesy, girly cardigans
  • the ever-classic trenchcoat
  • denim anything (especially dresses)

Stay gorgeous (and warm and dry and safe, Northeasterners!),
