New Ventures: Bluejay Eileen Print Shop

Seems Amanda and I can't help but have multiple creative projects (writing, photography, art...) in the works at all times.  I've been wanting to open a print shop for quite some time, but it seemed like the minute I started finally producing work, I got pregnant and too queasy to pick up a pencil.  Now that things have settled, I've finally got my new little venture up and running.  My etsy shop, Bluejay Eileen, is full of upbeat and colorful little prints--quotes and alphabets, for now.  I'm also taking custom orders!  Here's a little peek of some of the pieces from the shop...

I've struggled so long with wanting to create art work that is "meaningful" or "impact-ful" and in turn, ended up creating nothing at all for a long time.  I finally decided that I love that act of making and that it feels good to put brush/pen/pencil to paper, no matter how simple the final product is.  And this is what I've come up with.
I'll hope you'll visit Bluejay Eileen and take a look.  I'm excited to finally share!

How to Wear: Vintage Sweaters

It's the time of year where I see groups of hip girls roaming the thrift store, hunting for the perfect ugly Christmas sweater. It's usually not very hard. In fact, there are a lot of ugly vintage sweaters out there. But some of them are ugly-awesome, and you can style them into a hip, unique look. Here are two of my favorites, in the shop right now, styled with modern pieces (mostly under $50!):

2. American Eagle Vegan Leather Jacket (a steal! $49.98)/// 3. MIA Ankle Boots ($29.99)

1. Fleece-lined Tights ($7 right now!) ///
2. Charlotte Russe Faux Leather Skater Skirt ($22.99 right now!) /// 3. Nike sneakers ($75)

A vintage sweater is one of my go-to winter pieces--there are so many varieties, so you can find the one that best suits your style, whether it's bohemian rock and roller or sporty ingenue. There are many more in our shop (wink, wink--Christmas is coming).

P.S. Please remember how important it is to support small businesses, local shops, and indie presses/designers this holiday season. It means we can buy things for our own families (oh, and pay our bills).

Kiss Instawave & Our First Video Blog (eek!)

I have never been one to spend too much time on my hair.  I'm definitely an air-dry kind of girl that leans toward haircuts that are wash and wear, with minimal styling.  But after Lyla was born, my hair lost a lot of its wave.  In order to look "put together" I need to either add some curl/wave via curling iron, or blow and dry and flat iron.  So I was super excited to get the opportunity to try the Kiss Instawave.  I'm sure you've all seen the infomercials for it on TV.  Looks too good to be true!  But trust me--it's actually awesome and it took me less than 15 minutes from the "before" to the "after" shot below.

Okay.  Now here's the scary part...I was asked to make a little video to demonstrate just how the Instawave is used.  My first "vlog"!  Watch at your own risk (insert emoji of monkey covering his eyes HERE).

And there you have it!  I've discovered the lazy girl's way to have awesome hair!

Holiday Style with Miskabelle Vintage and Zappos

In partnership with Zappos, we styled our new Paige jeans and Freebird boots in our signature boho chic, vintage-inspired style for the holidays!

For the first time in a very long time, we were able to do a dual outfit post where we were in the same place at once!  We each styled a holiday look: Jayme with her Paige denim jeans and Amanda with her Freebird by Steven boots.  We were able to order everything through Zappos, which we loved, since they offer ultra-fast + free shipping (we got our items in a day!) and a 365-day return policy (how awesome is that?).

When we think of the holidays, we almost always go to red and green or silver and gold...pastels are for Easter.  Except when you pair pastels with black, it makes for a really pretty holiday color palette that perfectly displays our bohemian styles.

Amanda paired her boots with a sheer black dress, vintage belt, black tights, a pretty kimono cardigan and her favorite hat.  This boho look is perfect for a casual holiday party or date night walk to see the lights--these boots have higher heels, but the leather is so soft, that the more you wear them, the more comfortable they become. Freebird by Steven boots are handcrafted from start to finish, using a traditional Goodyear construction, in which stacks of leather are hammered together and carefully stitched to create a virtually indestructible sole--making them a perfect choice for long, chilly walks where you want to be supported, but also still look chic.

Jayme's look (check out that bump) would be adorable for a holiday get-together at home or a casual New Year's Eve party.  She paired a pink tulle mini dress with a nubby cardigan, her skinny Paige Hoxton Ankle Jeans, patent heels and a vintage necklace.  The wash of these jeans makes them so versatile--easy to wear for daytime and evening. Which makes absolute sense since Paige denim is completely obsessed with designing pieces you'll live in-jeans that go from morning to moonlight; the perfect pair that works like a charm, always; pieces to help you stand tall in what you're wearing, and take you exactly where you want to go.

A little sister shoe love.

We are so excited to get back together for the holidays, no doubt wearing our favorite pieces over and over again, since they've become staples in our wardrobes (and Jayme is even more excited that she'll soon be able to wear her jeans without a belly band...and we'll have a new little baby around these parts!).

Happy Holiday-Season to you and yours!

Vintage Maternity Lookbook / Preview 2

Tomorrow we will finally be able to show you our vintage maternity lookbook in full!  But for now, I wanted to give one last sneak peek.  This look was the most "me" and the one I'd most likely wear in my day to day life.  A stripe-y knit sweater that I paired with jeans (pro tip: low rise jeggings > maternity jeans and for a fraction of the cost!  I got these ones at Target.) and my favorite fringe boots.

Can't wait to share the final collection as a whole, tomorrow!
