Splurge vs. Steal : Fall Shoes

It seems as though vintage shops have become a dime a dozen, especially on Etsy.  At Miskabelle, we try to keep our shop full of items that are special and on-trend.  Whether classic or quirky, we want to be sure that our shop has things that we can picture our friends or ourselves wearing.  And of course, we want to offer these pieces at a great price!

Here a few Miskabelle vintage shoes for fall (the steals!) and their pricey of-the-now counterparts (the splurges!):

Splurge vs. Steal: Shoes

The thing I love so much about shoes is that they can completely change an outfit.  Switch to glam heels from a pair of flats and you turn a LBD into something slightly more glamorous.  I have more shoes in my collection than I'd probably like to confess here, although I'm a HUGE sale shopper (and, of course, there's a healthy dose of thrift/vintage in there!).  Here are some pairs of vintage shoes in the shop that pair a strong resemblance to MUCH pricier designer ones:

All three pairs are in the shop now...go get 'em before they're gone! (And check out the rest of the shop while you're there...we've been stocking up on sundresses and pretty bags!)

Splurge vs. Steal: Anthropologie Edition

If I could have a gift certificate to any larger, upscale chain store, Anthropologie is probably the place I'd choose.  It's way pricey for my everyday purchases, but if you're looking for something special, it's a great spot. I peruse the sale section of the site fairly frequently (even though I'm sort of on pregnant shopping hiatus!).

Another place you can find something special...for a lot less cash?  Vintage shops on Etsy, like ours! Today's splurge and steal takes an Anthro find and pairs it with a similar piece from our shop, at a fraction of the cost.

Which "steal" is your favorite? I love the patchwork maxi, even though it's more of Jayme's style than mine...I just think it would be amazing with a basic tank, piles of jewelry, and pretty leather sandals!

Splurge vs. Steal: Casual Cool

I have been noticing lately that while my closet has a of of adorable dresses and heels, I don't have a lot of outfits that I can just throw on to go grocery shopping or take Aurora to school and feel put together. I need to invest in a few more really good basics. And INVESTMENT is sometimes the right word, when you look at the prices on today's splurges: a simple black leather tote, a pair of campus boots, and a striped sweater. Luckily, our shop has you covered with some STEALS to help you get the look for so much less!

Black Leather Tote:  Gucci /// Miskabelle Vintage

Candy Striped Sweater:  Sonia Rykiel /// Miskabelle Vintage

Banana Leather Campus Boots:  Frye /// Miskabelle Vintage

Why SPLURGE when you can ind amazing, one-of-a-kind vintage pieces like these ones?

Splurge vs. Steal: Fall Fashion 2012

It's almost as good as Santa Claus dropping down the chimney: the day the mailman delivers the fall fashion issues, biceps bulging under the weight of a million ads.  While at the beach, I perused hundreds of pages (mostly of ELLE and InStyle) and saw so many fall trends that could be easily found in much more inexpensive vintage versions (and in the Miskabelle shop!)

Here are 5 of my favorites:

WEAR WITH:
 skinny trousers and a silk blouse for day;
your favorite LBD (above-the-knee) for night

WEAR WITH:
skinny jeans and a statement necklace (worn under the collar) for night

WEAR WITH:
with a full skirt and statement heels for night

Wear with:
layered over a soft tee with distressed jeans and wood-heeled ankle booties for day,

Trenches on the runway, DVF & Tory Burch /// Miskabelle Etienne Aigner Leather Trench, $75

Which trend will you be rocking this fall?  I'm most in love with the black leather trend, hoping the thrift gods will bless me with a vintage skirt or moto jacket for the season.

Amanda

P.S.  We're still looking to partner with some vintage and handmade shops and blogs starting in September!  We'd love to have you--for more info, check out Friday's post.

Splurge vs. Steal of the Day: Animal Print Maxi Skirt

This week I had one of those "thank God I'm not the only one" conversations via Twitter (with the lovely @LoLaVintage). I thought maybe I was the laziest woman in the world because some days, I look down and see my legs are prickly or downright hairy, and it's too hot outside for pants, so I find a maxi dress or skirt and throw it on rather than get in the shower and shave. Sometimes, I even wear a maxi two days in a row.

I pretty much agree with this flow chart as a guide:

Basically, every woman needs a maxi of some sort in her closet for those days.  Here are two super fun animal print version...a splurge and a Miskabelle super steal:

I actually think the bright patchwork-like pattern on the vintage version is more fun, and because the skirt is slightly narrow, it might be more flattering. If you're a size small to medium, go snag it!

And then that leg hair run free...at least for another day or two.
