Autumn Style with Miskabelle Vintage and Zappos

In partnership with Zappos we styled our new Paige jeans and Freebird boots in our signature boho chic, vintage-inspired style.

We are thrilled to be doing a double outfit post today. (The only thing that could make it better would be if we could be in the same place and take each others' photos, but this will have to do, until this upcoming weekend when we celebrate early Thanksgiving!).

We are also thrilled to have the chance to work with Zappos, who just turned 15 years old (happy birthday!).  The selection of boots and denims was astounding, which made it really hard to choose. But even though we took our time picking which pieces to add to our vintage wardrobes, they shipped ridiculously fast--and free.  Pretty much a dream experience.

Amanda:  I  have been embracing a more Bohemian look these days, so I jumped at the chance to add these beautiful Freebird by Steven El Paso boots to my wardrobe. They are handcrafted from start to finish with Goodyear construction, a technique used to make the highest quality boots for centuries. And to really fit with their name--Freebird--the designs go through 5 or 6 final steps to ensure each piece is one of a kind. These are the most beautiful things I've ever worn on my feet, no exaggeration, and I know they will last me for years.

Notice the multicolored hair, post-Halloween. I am definitely a Freebird.

A dress with boots is pretty much one of my fall wardrobe staples. I paired one of my favorite bohemian summer dresses with a flowy cardigan and vintage necklace and earrings to match the boho/Americana vibe of the El Paso boots. I can pretty much see myself rocking the boots and dress every season, adding tights for winter and leaving the cardigan at home when it's hot outside.  Yes, I wear boots year-round.

Jayme:  Well, jeans are not my best friend right now, being 31 weeks pregnant, but I was excited to see that Zappos had some awesome options from Paige Denim (they have so much more than just shoes!), and it was easy to find one that included lots of stretch!  These Hoxton Ankles are not maternity jeans, but I simply have a belly band (non-mamas, you may need to google this!) at the waist.  These are honestly jeans to live in.  For day or evening, they are so easy to style and definitely go along with Paige's philosophy of "chic sensibility".  We were really inspired by Paige Denim's founder, Paige Adams-Geller-- being the only female founder in the denim industry (girl power!) and love the fact that they use U.S. manufacturers.

Jeans really are my typical fall go-to, and this baby bump requires an easy, long tank top.  I just have to add a cute jacket and some boots to complete the look.  I sort of feel like I'm breaking some sort of rule by pairing the black (faux) leather  jacket with brown suede boots, but I think the mix and match of it makes it feel more bohemian.  Not to mention, the layers of bracelets that I can't seem to leave home without!

Thanks again to Zappos, Paige Premium Denim, and Freebird by Steve for helping us build a dreamy fall wardrobe!

We'll be back in a few more weeks with two more styles for the holiday season! Stay tuned!!

Vintage Maternity Lookbook / Preview 1

We were somehow lucky enough to recently acquire a small lot of vintage maternity clothes from the early 70's.  And seeing how I'm pregnant, I figured that I should take full advantage and model them for a fun little lookbook!  We've done lookbooks in the past (check them out here:  Miskabelle Holiday 2012 / Miskabelle Fall Preview 2012) and it's always fun to see a collection all together in the magazine format. I posted a teaser of one of the dresses on our facebook page earlier this week, but wanted to also share another sneak peek of a page straight from the lookbook, here on the blog.

This is probably my favorite top from the collection.  A bat wing style tunic, with a tie at the back of the waist, for the perfect fit.  I loved the multicolored embroidered edging, which gives it sort of a bohemian feel.

All the pieces will be posted for sale in the shop and linked in the lookbook), so if you're expecting, you may want to keep on the lookout--or even shoot us an email if you'd like first dibs!

Celebrity Looks for Less: Prints

When shopping for vintage,  the main thing that draws my eye is an interesting print.  Vintage fabrics not only offer unique patterns and color combinations, but are often much better quality than modern day cottons and polyesters-- that is, unless you can afford to shop designer labels.  These celebrities are showcasing some pretty awesome printed pieces that most likely had awesomely high price tags.  But we have the vintage look-a-likes currently in the shop!

Kristen Wiig
patterned midi skirt with gold hues

Olivia Palermo
robe front, long sleeve dress with burgundy hues

Sarah Jessica Parker
striped, button front midi skirt

And despite what some may think-- prints ARE easy to wear!  I love that Kristen Wiig takes a super interesting skirt and pairs it with a simple white blouse.  So easy!  Or you could go the SJP route and do print on print...if you are a little more brave.

Fall Denim Staples + Vintage

Second in line after boots, my favorite fall must-have is a great pair of jeans--in fact, I like to have several well-loved pairs in my wardrobe to work with.  I miss my jeans during those hot summer months and then usually wear them to death once the cool months come around.

My most-worn jeans for autumn are an easy pair of slimming denim in a mid-wash.  I usually go for a skinny leg so that I can wear them both with flats or my aforementioned boots, but I also love the retro feel of wide leg jeans with a high rise.  With the base of your outfit being a great pair of denim, you can simply add a quirky blouse and some fun, colorful shoes (both vintage!).

SHOP:

My next must-have pair of jeans for women are a dark denim wash; great for a special date -- or even for "casual Friday" at the office (a dark wash looks way more professional).  I love this look of a super girly vintage blouse with a sleek pair of jeans and stacked wood heels.  Chic but still easy.

SHOP:

I think the last pair of jeans that every gal should have in her closet this fall are what I call a "wild card"-- something just a little more special.  Some great choices would be printed jeans or some sort of coated denim.  I like the idea of something a little more edgy, like the ones shown below.

SHOP:

Being pregnant and dressing for cool weather has been a challenge so far because I'm missing my favorite jeans!  I don't want to invest in anything too pricey as far as maternity-wear goes, so I'm rotating between one pair of mid-wash jeans and some stretchy waist leggings.  Needless to say--I'm jealous of you ladies who can rock all the jeans you want this fall!  What are your go-to jeans?  Something I've left off this list?  I'd love to hear...to live vicariously!
