Celebrity Looks for Less: Prints

When shopping for vintage,  the main thing that draws my eye is an interesting print.  Vintage fabrics not only offer unique patterns and color combinations, but are often much better quality than modern day cottons and polyesters-- that is, unless you can afford to shop designer labels.  These celebrities are showcasing some pretty awesome printed pieces that most likely had awesomely high price tags.  But we have the vintage look-a-likes currently in the shop!

Celebrity Looks for Less / Shop Preview : Well Suited

We have some great two piece suits coming to the shop this week.  Personally I would have nowhere to wear something like this, but I still appreciate the beautiful details and impeccable tailoring on these vintage suits.
While watching the Golden Globes last night, I noticed Diane Keaton's black tux looked eerily similar to the one we're adding to the shop and I thought I'd find some other celebrity look-a-likes, to show some great examples of how to wear these suits.

Celebrity Looks for Less: Be Bold

This compilation of celebrity looks for less sort of seemed all over place when I first put it together... but I realized they all have one common factor:  BOLDNESS.  Celebrities often seem to "pull off" more over-the-top or interesting pieces, and I think they feel safer wearing these pieces because 'if it's from a famous designer it must be cool, right?'.  Well, since you've got the go-ahead that these pieces are actually "stylish", why not grab their much less expensive, vintage counterpart?  Phew!  I apologize for the excessive use of quotes!  My personal philosophy is: if you like it, wear it, style is all in how you feel.  But I suppose being "on trend" (doh!  more quotes!) can be a criteria for picking out clothes too.

She rocks this sheer printed dress with a bold print.  I think it is pretty obvious that she is a lover/wearer of vintage.  Find our version HERE.

I do believe this is her first appearance in our Celebrity Looks posts!  Her Missoni skirt is very 70's and we have one that is similar in print, though admittedly less sexy/slinky.  Find our version HERE.

Chloe Moretz

I think the perfect pairing to these short sleeve beaded tops is denim!  I helps it feel less mother-of-the-bride and more ladylike cool.  Find our version HERE.

When spring and summer roll around, florals are always a "trend" in every magazine.  However, something timeless isn't really a trend--it's a classic.  Of course, you can always put our own spin on the classics, just like these celebrities.  And vintage florals are a great investment because they stand the test of time!  Don't forget the vintage shoes to complete the look.

Celebrity Looks for Less: Summer Florals

I am definitely big into florals when it comes to summer time dressing.  We just happen to have the shop stocked with a lot of great flower print sundresses-- and few are awfully similar to dresses recently seen on some lovely celebrity ladies.

Celebrity Looks for Less: Solid Seventies

We're back with another edition of Celebrity Looks for Less!  I must admit, one of my go-to boredom cures is perusing People.com's style section.  It's always fun finding things that look like pieces we have in the shop!  Here are a couple pretty 1970's dresses and their celebrity-worn counterparts--all solid colors but with special details that make them stand out.

Gwyneth Paltrow 
in a drape-y sea green floor length gown with cut out shoulders.  Our version is the same hue, same length and has the same open shoulder detail but with short sleeves and a pleated skirt.  Miskabelle 70s Maxi Dress, $48

Celebrity Looks for Less: Maggie Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal has a quirky style that can easily incorporate vintage pieces (bold / off-beat / one-of-a-kind).  Recently she chopped her hair into a pixie cut and has been spotted in a couple of dresses that could've been straight out of the Miskabelle Vintage shop (though in actuality, we're pretty sure hers are expensive designer pieces...)!  Here are her versions, and ours, for a fraction of the price!

First up a black and white print dress with ruffly sleeves....er, sleeve.  Ours has both shoulders, and a little more interesting print (abstract animals!).  Miskabelle 1970s Ruffle Print Sundress, $48

We have ton of other great stuff in the shop right now that is worth checking out.  We really do take a lot of care in choosing what pieces to sell-- selecting things we think are special and/or on trend for right now.  I think sometimes people connect the word "vintage" with anything old/weird/thrifted, but we think of our shop as a curated collection of special pieces.  We love the story each piece has to tell and we love that they add something unique to your wardrobe.

Celebrity Looks for Less: Ladylike Cool

Today we're sharing some inspiring looks for some very stylish celebs...each look has an element of prim-and-proper, but there's also some quirkiness. Which I love! And all of these looks can be easily re-created with vintage pieces (including the featured ones, all in the shop now--and at 20% off for Spring!).

 Jessica Alba is wearing a very buttoned up top half, but I love that she paired it with those adorable shoes!  Just add your favorite skinny jeans.

Allison Williams has been killing in the LBD category lately.  These dresses have a similar style (a very 1950s silhouette), and the pointy patent pumps add a touch of sexiness.

Diane Kruger definitely has the most daring style of the bunch--but a longer length leather skirt tones down the shorter top.  Our burgundy leather version is also a little more "everyday" than the lipstick red.

Vintage is always in style...before you buy up something you like, why not see if you can find a vintage version? Not only may you score a one-of-a-kind piece, but you'll also probably save a lot of cash!

Celebrity Looks for Less: Inspired By vs. Inspiring

Often times these "Celebrity Looks for Less" posts are inspired by a photo of an actress we just happen to see and think "that _______ looks exactly like one we have in the Miskabelle shop!"  Or other times I am inspired by pieces already in the shop that I think are great "in"/on-trend things, and I'll search for a photo of a celebrity wearing something similar.

This post has one of each.  

Sarah Jessica Parker in an uber girl polka dot frock.  The resemblance to our vintage piece is uncanny!  And I love that she paired it with those bright pink heels.

Celebrity Looks for Less: Printed Dresses

Just wanted to share some recent favorite celebrity looks, that just so happen to have Miskabelle vintage look-a-likes.  I love when we see patterns and prints on the red carpet rather in place of solid colors.  Not everyone can pull off a print (especially a couple of  the more bold ones, seen below!) but it is definitely a way to make a statement.

RACHEL BILSON:  hot pink leopard maxi dress?  sounds pretty awful in writing...but of course, Rachel Bilson pulls it off and actually makes it look cool.  I actually think the vintage counterpart here is more wearable--the bold print being just on the top half.

Celebrity Look for Less : Expect the Unexpected

This "Celebrity Look for Less" is sort of a little tip or idea for styling an outfit.  I love being able to use one piece of clothing in multiple ways.  Here, Alexa Chungs takes a little black dress and rather than layering a cardigan or blazer on top, she does something more unexpected-- she pairs a printed button up shirt underneath.  Add a quirky brooch and some ankle booties and you've got the look!

Celebrity Looks for Less: For Fall

It has been a while since we have showed you some recent celebrity looks that closely resemble Miskabelle vintage goods!  Here a few to check out...

Katie Holmes in a "fringed cape" (because I can't bring myself to use the word "poncho"--brings back too many memories of late 90's ruination of the trend...I'm picturing sparkly/hot pink/cropped..ick) and leather ankle boots.

Jessica Biel workin' the menswear trend in a blazer and loafers.  I love that she fems it up a bit with the white lacey top.  But I kind of hate the hat.

Alexa Chung in a striped tee, cut off shorts and ladylike shoes.  Add black tights and a fitted blazer to fall-ize the look.  I would lose the cig.

Celebrity Looks for Less: Michelles

I am a big advocate for wearing dresses all summer, to beat the heat.  Here are couple celebrities in looks centered around dresses, that can be easily re-created with item from our shop.  Both are named Michelle and both actresses, but pretty much their similarities end at that.   

Michelle Trachtenberg:  

casual maxi (and casual hair...and casual shoes....)

As far as dresses go, I don't think this look could get any more casual--a maxi with an oversized sweater and flip flops.  I do like the added detail of the crossbody bag and the cool sunglasses.  Our version features a solid colored dress in a great shade of pink.

Michelle Williams:

See what I mean about the super contrasting styles in these two ladies?  Williams pairs a very simple, yet chic floral dress, cinched at the waist, with wedge sandals and a straw tote.  Our version of the dress needs to be belted to get that waist-hugging shape, but features a similar high neckline and pretty floral pattern.
