Celebrity Looks for Less: Maggie Gyllenhaal

Maggie Gyllenhaal has a quirky style that can easily incorporate vintage pieces (bold / off-beat / one-of-a-kind).  Recently she chopped her hair into a pixie cut and has been spotted in a couple of dresses that could've been straight out of the Miskabelle Vintage shop (though in actuality, we're pretty sure hers are expensive designer pieces...)!  Here are her versions, and ours, for a fraction of the price!

First up a black and white print dress with ruffly sleeves....er, sleeve.  Ours has both shoulders, and a little more interesting print (abstract animals!).  Miskabelle 1970s Ruffle Print Sundress, $48

Next up is a printed tent dress with long sleeves.  Maggie's is in a warmer color palette and looks great with the addition of a thin rope belt.  Miskabelle 1970's Floral Tent Dress, $34

We have ton of other great stuff in the shop right now that is worth checking out.  We really do take a lot of care in choosing what pieces to sell-- selecting things we think are special and/or on trend for right now.  I think sometimes people connect the word "vintage" with anything old/weird/thrifted, but we think of our shop as a curated collection of special pieces.  We love the story each piece has to tell and we love that they add something unique to your wardrobe.

Celebrity Looks for Less: Plaids

celeb looks banner

I must admit, when plaid came back onto the fashion scene I was pretty excited about it.  Growing up in the 90's I had my fair share of plaid button up shirts (oversized, worn open, with a graphic tee underneath).  90's grunge forever.  But there are more sophisticated ways to sport plaid.  Here's a couple of ideas from celebrities, and some Miskabelle pieces to recreate their looks.

Sarah Jessica Parker
This is a lady-about-town sort of look.  Plaid, mid-length skirt, leather bag and a tucked in sweater.  Pair it with some fun heels to modernize the look.

Katie Holmes
This look is almost a parred down version of 1990's styled plaid.  A plaid button up shirt (knotted at the waist, rather than worn loose and sloppy) and a flouncy skirt.  Paired with unexpected little booties.

All the Miskabelle pieces are currently for sale in the SHOP!  Though that plaid button up (by Diane Von Furstenberg!) is sort of speaking to me... better snatch it up quick, before I decide to keep it for myself!

Miskabelle: Celebrity Looks for Less!

We are loving warm colors for spring-- corals, reds and especially mustard yellow.  This yellow Mulberry dress on Clemence Poesy (of 127 Days) is spot on to the vintage version we have in the shop!  Both with sweet little collars, longer hemlines (minis are SO over!) and look great with a contrasting belt at the waist.

Miskabelle Vintage Mustard Yellow Silky Button Down Shirt Dress, $27

Denim jackets are the perfect spring cover up:  and they're a classic piece, so it's easy to find a vintage version (we have three different ones in the shop now, each with a different wash and fit!)  I love how Nicole pairs her floral dress and denim jacket (by Hudson) with the black staples: scarf, tights, bag, boots. (She totally copied my hair...it looked like this a little less than a year ago.)

Miskabelle 70s Denim Jacket, $20

Black lace is big for evening--Taylor Swift wears a full lace dress by Jenny Packham, but you could easily pair this vintage lace top with a black skirt and create a faux dress look by adding a thin patent belt or silky ribbon sash.

Miskabelle Vintage Black Lace Top, $14

This look is the meeting of two spring trends:  denim and midi-skirts.  Claudia Schiffer's accessories give the look a bohemian feel. With buttons down the front and an a-line cut, this vintage skirt is almost an exact match to Schiffer's Stella McCartney piece--and a STEAL at just $10!

Miskabelle Vintage Denim Twirl Skirt, $10

You can dress like a celebrity without spending thousands:  so many looks this season are inspired by vintage, but at Miskabelle, you can find the real thing!

A shop full of spring beauties, coming your way soon (like, when it's actually spring and there's enough light to take photographs).
