Vintage Maternity Lookbook / Preview 2

Tomorrow we will finally be able to show you our vintage maternity lookbook in full!  But for now, I wanted to give one last sneak peek.  This look was the most "me" and the one I'd most likely wear in my day to day life.  A stripe-y knit sweater that I paired with jeans (pro tip: low rise jeggings > maternity jeans and for a fraction of the cost!  I got these ones at Target.) and my favorite fringe boots.

Can't wait to share the final collection as a whole, tomorrow!

Autumn Style with Miskabelle Vintage and Zappos

In partnership with Zappos we styled our new Paige jeans and Freebird boots in our signature boho chic, vintage-inspired style. 

We are thrilled to be doing a double outfit post today. (The only thing that could make it better would be if we could be in the same place and take each others' photos, but this will have to do, until this upcoming weekend when we celebrate early Thanksgiving!).

We are also thrilled to have the chance to work with Zappos, who just turned 15 years old (happy birthday!).  The selection of boots and denims was astounding, which made it really hard to choose. But even though we took our time picking which pieces to add to our vintage wardrobes, they shipped ridiculously fast--and free.  Pretty much a dream experience.

Amanda:  I  have been embracing a more Bohemian look these days, so I jumped at the chance to add these beautiful Freebird by Steven El Paso boots to my wardrobe. They are handcrafted from start to finish with Goodyear construction, a technique used to make the highest quality boots for centuries. And to really fit with their name--Freebird--the designs go through 5 or 6 final steps to ensure each piece is one of a kind. These are the most beautiful things I've ever worn on my feet, no exaggeration, and I know they will last me for years.

A dress with boots is pretty much one of my fall wardrobe staples. I paired one of my favorite bohemian summer dresses with a flowy cardigan and vintage necklace and earrings to match the boho/Americana vibe of the El Paso boots. I can pretty much see myself rocking the boots and dress every season, adding tights for winter and leaving the cardigan at home when it's hot outside.  Yes, I wear boots year-round.

Jayme:  Well, jeans are not my best friend right now, being 31 weeks pregnant, but I was excited to see that Zappos had some awesome options from Paige Denim (they have so much more than just shoes!), and it was easy to find one that included lots of stretch!  These Hoxton Ankles are not maternity jeans, but I simply have a belly band (non-mamas, you may need to google this!) at the waist.  These are honestly jeans to live in.  For day or evening, they are so easy to style and definitely go along with Paige's philosophy of "chic sensibility".  We were really inspired by Paige Denim's founder, Paige Adams-Geller-- being the only female founder in the denim industry (girl power!) and love the fact that they use U.S. manufacturers.

Jeans really are my typical fall go-to, and this baby bump requires an easy, long tank top.  I just have to add a cute jacket and some boots to complete the look.  I sort of feel like I'm breaking some sort of rule by pairing the black (faux) leather  jacket with brown suede boots, but I think the mix and match of it makes it feel more bohemian.  Not to mention, the layers of bracelets that I can't seem to leave home without!

Vintage Maternity Lookbook / Preview 1

We were somehow lucky enough to recently acquire a small lot of vintage maternity clothes from the early 70's.  And seeing how I'm pregnant, I figured that I should take full advantage and model them for a fun little lookbook!  We've done lookbooks in the past (check them out here:  Miskabelle Holiday 2012 / Miskabelle Fall Preview 2012) and it's always fun to see a collection all together in the magazine format. I posted a teaser of one of the dresses on our facebook page earlier this week, but wanted to also share another sneak peek of a page straight from the lookbook, here on the blog.

This is probably my favorite top from the collection.  A bat wing style tunic, with a tie at the back of the waist, for the perfect fit.  I loved the multicolored embroidered edging, which gives it sort of a bohemian feel.

Outfit Post: 23 weeks

My first pregnancy I took weekly bump photos, starting at 14 weeks.  Never missed a week.  This time around I haven't really been in the photo-taking groove, but I don't want to leave the pregnancy completely undocumented!  So, let's see if I can get my butt in gear and take some pictures every once in a while, eh?

I have been coveting these Novella Royale Janis bells for so long that I decided I should take the plunge on some fun printed pants.  I found these at Target and thought the elastic waistband would make them a pregnancy pant go-to.  Turns out the wide elastic is just a bit too tight (I even exchanged for a bigger size!) and I've only worn them a couple times because they make me feel like I'm squishing the baby.  Maybe I'll get some better use out of them next summer...

One thing I can count on to fit properly no matter how much my waistline expands?  Accessories!  I love this floppy felt hat Amanda thrifted for me last fall.  It adds a nice bohemian touch to an otherwise boring outfit.  My birthday is this weekend and my wish list also includes some more fun jewelry (I really want an ear cuff or some kind of ear piece!  Of course I get the itch for a piercing when I'm physically not allowed to get one....) and the perfect pair of ankle booties (have you seen them?  Let me know!).

Outfit Post: Baby on the Way!

So, I guess I failed to mention that I am expecting!  Yep, baby number two is set to arrive the first week of January 2015.  Being pregnant has made for a lazy summer, full of tank tops and leggings--lots of loose tops and elastic waistbands.  I had a really rough few weeks, being super nauseous and barely leaving the house, but now I've regained my energy and have been trying to enjoying what's left of summer.

We were excited to be approached by Vintage Maya, and have the opportunity to choose a piece from their website.  If you're not familiar with Vintage Maya, they offer both vintage inspired and modern designs in their carefully curated shop of home decor and women's accessories.  Their focus is "Beauty Love Artistry" and we love the fact that they use work from artisans and independent designers.

They have some pretty amazing things for the home-- from decorative pillows to glassware to bedding (how amazing are some of these duvet covers!?).  But I chose this gorgeous black and gold statement necklace-- a perfect excuse to get a little dressed up after months of yoga pants!  It is the perfect piece of flair for a little black dress.  This necklace has some weight to it--a sign of quality!  And I love the fact that it can be adjusted at the clasp to be worn a bit longer, or more as a choker, as I did here.  Add a messy up-do and some vintage rings and bangles and I was ready to take this 20 week baby bump out of hiding!

Outfit Post: Be-Spectacled (+ Firmoo Eyewear Review)

As a glasses wearer of almost 20 years, I am always looking for cool new specs.  I was excited when Firmoo eyewear invited me to try out a style.  Ordering glasses online can be tricky, but they have this awesome Virtual Try-On System where you can upload a photo of yourself and "try on" the glasses you like.  I found it to be a really accurate representation of how the glasses would look on my face.  It made selecting the right pair super easy!  The glasses came with a both a hard case and soft drawstring bag, as well as a cleaning cloth.  I am super impressed with the quality and fit and definitely recommend Firmoo as a great place to find affordable (and cute!) eyewear.

I wanted to stick with really classic shaped glasses that would work with a lot of different styles of clothing.  It's always feels a little odd to me to wear jewelry when I'm wearing glasses (I don't know...I'm weird!), but I think these glasses are really subtle and work well with my penchant for layers of silver rings/bracelets/necklaces.  Here is the link for my glasses, but in tortoise shell (just $39!).

We are on the cusp of warm weather here in PA, so I was excited to take some photos outside!  But don't be fooled by my short sleeves...it was still pretty chilly.  I am also very out of practice for "spring dressing", so excuse my very fall-esque color palette.  Maybe I need to invest in some pastel denim to switch out these rust colored jeans for the spring...

Outfit Post: Nostalgia

'Forgive me, Blogger, for I have sinned.  It has been 6 MONTHS since my last outfit post...."

Seems as though once the temperatures dipped below 60, I decided to hibernate in my jeans and Ugg boots and giant puffy jacket, all of which I have no photographic evidence.  It got so bad that I actually told my husband I was a little sad to see the cold weather go because it meant I'd actually have to get dressed.  BUT, yesterday I found out I am done with my seasonal part-time work gig for the year and I was over the moon, so I decided to celebrate by putting on (GASP) a skirt!

This outfit screams 90's to me-- daisy print mini, over-the-knee socks, and keep your eyes peeled for a piece of yin-yang jewelry. Yup.  I loved the 90s and I still love the 90s, so I'm happy these nostalgic styles are coming back.  Amanda and I were talking about how the fact that we actually lived in that decade and wore those trends the first time around, makes it a little weird to go all out with it this time around (Like, as 30-somethings, aren't we too old it?).  I mean, do I love a subtle yin-yang hanging from neck?  Sure!  Would I rock overalls and creepers?  Probably not.

Here is my subtle take the 90s trend....

Outfit Post: Big Tease

We're back with an outfit post!!! Because it wasn't snowing or raining or below zero outside and therefore, we were able to take some pictures in natural lighting.

I wore this to church on Sunday (whoops--a little more cleavage than I thought when I looked in the mirror, but it's tasteful...right?).  I found this hairstyle on Pinterest the other night and it's super easy and I love it, so you're probably going to get bored of seeing me wearing my hair this way.

This dress is lacy and romantic and everything I'm dreaming about for spring. In fact, I did a spring-heavy vintage shopping trip this week and everything is very 70s/bohemian. Hoping to style everything into a lookbook for Spring (!).

Outfit Post: Gingham Girl

The monsoon-like weather here in VA means I've been living in jeans, big sweaters and my rain boots.  But things started to ease up yesterday and I wanted to *really* get dressed. So I did.

I thrifted this vintage cashmere top a while ago and have been dying to wear it, so I started from there. It's the perfect canvas for my brooch collection, and I see myself pairing it with cute skirts all fall/winter long. It was also brisk enough for my favorite jacket, another wardrobe staple that I found at the end of winter last year:

The gingham pleated skirt was also a recent thrift purchase--for a more formal occasion, I think I'll put a vintage crinoline underneath to add fullness.  But it's another great staple piece for my wardrobe, which I need to do a better job of curating. I fall for bright colors or fun prints, but in the end, I often don't wear them.  My black/red/white/navy/gray/occasional mustard palette seems to work well. I need to purge my wardrobe and rebuild a little...

Happy sunshine-y day, the first sun I've seen in almost a week! We're planning on getting out and enjoying it (and not wearing waterproof footwear!).

Outfit Post: Do You

We had a fantastic weekend--took a rest from the flea market. On Saturday, we had a sweet friend's birthday party, enjoyed some fro yo as a family, did a little thrift shopping, tried a new neighborhood food joint, and bought fall plants to spruce up our yard.

And here's what I wore for most of it (come on, could I really wear these booties to the Home Depot???):

It's no big secret that I don't like my legs. I've always been pear shaped and carried my weight in my hips and thighs.  So originally, I wasn't on board with the colored tights trend.  But more and more, I've decided: F*CK it. I love clothes, I want to wear what I want to wear, and I'm not making apologies for my body. I'm healthy, I work hard, and I don't care what other people think. I felt like a million bucks in this outfit!

And just to add to my own body positivity, I stumbled on this great campaign last night via Tumblr: Marina Rinaldi's Women Are Back.  So many beautiful, curvaceous figures--made me feel even better about mine and all the possibilities I can dress it in, no matter what my size (+20 baby pounds. ahem.).

Outfit Post: Milkmaid

On Saturday I turned 30.  I'm still not really sure how I feel about it.  I keep joking about how "old" I am, but really, I know it's not all that old. --insert the old adage about how "age is just a number" here--

This outfit was meant to be worn to a wine tasting and birthday dinner with friends, but in full disclosure, I ended up doing a quick change right before I left because I felt a little overdressed.  I figured it was still worth posting the photos here because this 50's sundress is currently for sale in the shop!  I don't think people can get a full grasp for how amazing it is, just seeing it on the dress form.

Outfit Post: Late Afternoon Sun

I am ready for summer to be done after the last two ultra-humid, 90 degree days we've had here in VA. In that kind of heat, it's hard to find anything comfortable to wear (let alone ultra fashionable).  Vintage dresses are always my go-to, and this is one of my very favorites, purchased for a steal last year on eBay.

Outfit Post + Review: Homecoming

This post is a little belated, but as you might guess, life is a little crazy around these parts adjusting to a new little one. I still haven't found a groove or a schedule, and while I have lots of dreams and ideas, I have little energy to make things happen right now exactly when I want them to.

I am wearing one of my favorite vintage dresses here (woohoo! It fits!). We went out to dinner with Jayme's family when they were here, Milena's (and my) first real outing. I even showered (and styled my hair!).

While we don't do it often, we love the opportunity to partner with businesses for giveaways or reviews.  One opportunity came just in time, from a company called O-Necklace. They are known for their name necklaces (think Carrie on Sex and the City). I already have an Amanda necklace, purchased, of course, during the height of SATC. But they also have several varieties of Mother necklaces, and since I had just had Milena, it was a perfect way to show some love for my two girls.

The necklace is gorgeous (I haven't taken it off since I put it on), and it came in a pretty gift box.  Since you're able to choose the necklace length, I picked one just right for me--it looks good with every neckline. O-Necklace has great prices, and the shipping was fast. These would make excellent gifts (as you start to think about the holidays)--people love personalized 

things.

Outfit Post: Cropped and Comfortable

I'm sort of breaking my own rule in this outfit post-- wearing a bare midriff top.  But you know what?  I turn 30 next month and I figure as a girl in the last few weeks of her twenties I should be allowed to break a few rules!  This cropped top has been in the shop for quite a while and I have tried it on a million times with high waisted skirts but finally realized that its boxy fit pairs best with high waisted (and snug fitting) pants.

Besides this lovely top (still for sale in the shop!) I wanted to highlight my new shoes from Sole Provisions.  This company has a great site full of shoes that aren't just cute, but are also comfortable.  These particular sandals are by Orthaheels (yep!  Can you believe it?  A shoe this cute, invented by a podiatrist!).  They have just enough lift, with the little wedge but are still perfect for an all-day stroll or chasing around a toddler.  The quality is great--I am in love with the super luxe suede covered footbed...which feels oh-so-nice on my feet and the unique detailing (the braided top, the sliver of jute around the sole, the dainty ankle strap...) make them worthy of being the highlight of any summer outfit.  I can't wait to pair them with a simple floral sundress next!
