Recap: Miskabelle's First Pop-Up Shop

Well, it took a lot of work to get everything together, but I finally sold vintage in person for the first time! (I was sad Jayme was able to help me, but thankful my husband doesn't mind some crafting and/or heavy lifting!).  Some of our stock was featured in luri & wilma magazine, and they threw a launch party where you could shop the looks from the shoot, plus other vintage goodies.

The party was hosted at fantastic local shop Ginger Root, and the crowd was fashionable and fun!  Cupcakes and wine were had, photos were taken, vintage was purchased.  I had no idea what to expect, but I learned a lot, had a ton of fun, and I'm ready to do it again soon!

Here are some photos from our fabulous evening in DC:
///Quentin and Aurora took the town by storm (to let me work).  The e-magazine was projected onto the wall, and the eco-friendly reusable tote bags came with the purchase of a ticket!///

///Miskabelle's selling spot--boots and bags galore!///
///me being silly, and me with the raffle winner!///
///Some shots of the lovely editors, Porsha (in yellow!) and Charlie (in a Miskabelle
red floral dress!)///
///So many fashionable ladies (and gents!) and Megan, l&w's marketing coordinator, looking so cute in a Miskabelle poncho!///

It was a great night, but I took a day (or two) to recover--and that was on only one eco-friendly cup of  wine! ;)  Thanks so much to the ladies of luri & wilma and Ginger Root for the opportunity and for all the help loading and unloading!

Go check out the issue!  It's awesome. You'll spot a lot of Miskabelle duds, as well as a little feature on buying vintage--shared by none other than moi.

This Weekend in DC: The First Ever Miskabelle Vintage Pop-Up Shop!

I was excited to have the lovely editors of luri & wilma, DC's Eco-Chic magazine, over to my studio a few weeks ago to pick vintage for their fall issue.  I love what they are doing, so it was an honor, and I can't wait to see the final product!  For the launch of their fall issue, they are throwing a release party this Saturday evening at Ginger Root Design--and I'm going to be there, along with Butler & Claypool Collective, selling looks from the issue (and more!).

So come and see me in person--and if you mention the blog, I'll give you a discount...deal?  But seriously, I'd love to give you a hug and help you find something pretty (and eco-chic) to wear for fall. If you're looking for boots and bags, I'm your girl. The stock is killer.

Here are more details or you can just go get your ticket here! I really do hope to see you there!

(P.S. There will be Crunkcakes...which I believe are some wonderful combination of alcohol and cupcake, so basically: pure awesome.)

Outfit Post: Fort Reno

It took us all summer, but we finally got our stuff together, packed a picnic (a big loaf of bread, hummus, veggies, olives, cheese and salami (for the non vegans), chocolate chip cookies), and headed into DC for the free outdoor concert series at Fort Reno.  It just happened to be the last night for it this year, and the weather was perfect---breezy and cool.

Maxi dresses are great for events like this which involve a lot of sitting in the ground. No flashing involved.  Cute pants or shorts are also a good option, but we all know how I feel about shorts and it was still a little warm for pants. Plus, I was dying to try on and wear this dress I found while thrifting: it's totally 90s grunge. I can see it in the fall with a tough jacket and some boots.

The dress has this swirly open weave design on the bodice that makes it super unique. I put a tank underneath, but the more daring could probably get by with a cute piece of black lingerie (and some six pack abs to go with it).

Aurora also dressed for the occasion (her shirt is vintage, and I think it's really a baby dress, but it will be coming soon to the baby shop!).  She wanted to run around and meet people the whole time, so while we had fun, it wasn't the most relaxing evening (at least, not for Q)...the other bonus of the show was the ice cream truck.  Of course, there was nothing vegan, even though Q tried by getting me a creamy coconut pop--the first ingredient was milk. And not coconut milk. FAIL.  Still, I loved him for trying and just munched on another vegan oatmeal chocolate chip cookie instead.

We are looking forward to a beautiful weekend with some biking, relaxing, and a little trip to Richmond.  Hope yours is lovely!

Outfit Post: Date Night, Take 2

On Sunday night, Q and I went out on a real live date, y'all.  We headed to the 9:30 Club in DC to see Old 97's w/ Teddy Thompson opening.

The show was incredible! So much energy, so many great songs. The crowd was a little pushy, but that's to be expected at 9:30 Club (one of my least favorite DC venues, to be honest).  And there was SO SO MUCH of Rhett Miller, my uber-crush.

We were so close to the stage that his sweat dripped on me.  It was like a benediction.  Seriously.

We had dinner in the car on the way to the show.  Confession:  We got McDonald's.  Confession:  It tasted SO good.  (I know--I'm gross.)

Here's what I wore to spend some quality time with my Love, Rhett Quentin:

Levi's denim jacket-vintage, dress-UO, belt-AE (old), tights-Target, Boots-Durango (worn in by me), purse-vintage borrowed from the shop

True Love <3 (Q & A)

I never used to like brown and black together, but the combo has really been growing on me.  The gray weather is keeping me in darker clothes, but I'm really looking forward to busting out some spring colors and patterns.

I am still kind of on a concert high, three days later!  I can't stop playing Old 97's and reliving that great night out. That's how you know it was a good show.  I can't wait to see them again!

Amanda
