WHAT TO WEAR: Music Festivals (American edition)

SXSW and Coachella have come and gone, but there's still a lot of great festival action coming to America in the next few months. The same considerations as UK Festival dressing apply:  comfort + fashion = true music fest style.

Bonnaroo -Tennessee (June 2011)
The US's (slightly smaller) version of Glastonbury, this festival is huge with something for everyone.  A short list of artists you'll see there:  Emienem, Black Keys, Arcade Fire, My Morning Jacket, L'il Wayne, Ray LaMontagne, Iron & Wine, The Strokes, The Decemberists, Florence + the Machine, Gogol Bordello, Alison Krauss + Union Station, Matt & Kim, Sleigh Bells, Neon Trees, Amos Lee, Deer Tick, Black Joe Lewis, The Walkmen, Lorette Lynn, Scissor Sisters, Beirut...and many more.

SHOP-  boots, sundress, bag

Pitchfork -Chicago (July 2011)
Guaranteed to be in the biggest gathering of hipsters since, well... last year's Pitchfork Festival.  Lineup includes: Animal Collective, Neko Case, Guided by Voices, Fleet Foxes, Destroyer, Superchunk, Zola Jesus, Ariel Pink's Huanted Graffiti, Toro y Moi, and of course: MORE.

Lollapalooza  -Chicago  (August 2011)
This list of bands is still forthcoming, but headliners are said to be Eminem, Muse,  and Foo Fighters. (Lykke Li and Best Coast will be there too.)

We hope you've enjoyed our vintage music festival inspirations (and hope you've been a little inspired)!  To those of you really getting the chance to go to some of these festivals?  We are BEYOND jealous.  At least we can dream...

WHAT TO WEAR: Music Festivals (UK edition)

Ah, to be a celebrity and have the ability to gallivant around the globe as you please to take part in all of the amazing music festivals happening this spring and summer. And in the perfect outfit too.

Music Festival fashion is a huge trend right now after SXSW and Coachella.  It may seem effortless, but a lot of thought goes into the planning process.  You have to consider weather conditions (and potential weather conditions, i.e. rain), sun exposure, mobs of people, being outdoors on grass/dirt, standing and dancing for long period of times. (See my friend Allie's great list of tips on her blog Wardrobe Oxygen.)  You want to be comfortable, but you also want to look good (who knows who you'll run into? Especially when there are hundreds, maybe thousands, of musicians flocking to these things.)

Vintage styles are a popular look at these outdoor festivals, since big music festivals kind of originated in the 60s and 70s styles are very laidback and on trend for spring.  Today, we shop the Miskabelle closet, planning our imaginary trip to the UK for two big gatherings of music lovers.   What would we wear?

Isle of Wight   (June 2011)
Called "The British Woodstock."  Kings of Leon, Foo Fighters, and Kasabian headlining. Also featuring: Band of Horses, Two Door Cinema Club, The Like, Imelda May, and more.

Glastonbury  (June 2011)
A seriously huge festival, with almost every type of music represented.  Headliners include U2, Morrisey, Beyonce, Cee Lo Green, Coldplay and Mumford & Sons (talk about eclectic!) You can also see:  BB King, Bright Eyes, The Wombats, Cage the Elephant, Warpaint, Crystal Castles, Jenny & Johnny, Fatboy Slim, Mike Posner, Janelle Monae, Friendly Fires, Big Boi, Ke$ha, The Eels, OK Go, The Joy Formidable, Robyn, Suzanne Vega, Cold War Kids, The Low Anthem...the list goes on. And on.
