Outfit Post: First Thanksgiving

If this was the First Thanksgiving, I would obviously be in pilgrim garb, but this title is really about the fact that I get to have two Thanksgivings this year, one with Q's family (this past weekend) and one with my family (tomorrow!!! eeeee!).  We had an amazing time on Sunday, catching up with Q's siblings and sharing lots and lots of food.  We brought several vegan dishes, including or mac and cheese, which is a family favorite.

Of course, since I work from home, I take up any occasion to dress up. This is what I wore for my First Thanksgiving this year:

Oh, the food:  Harvest Fruit Crumble, Maple Crusted Tofu, and Vegan Mac and Cheese.

I decided to take fall colors in stride with this outfit (mustard, beige tweed, chocolate brown). I have been living in the skirt (cotton with an elastic waist=perfect for an expanding stomach). The temperature was warmer than expected, and once we all filled the house, along with the hot stove blasting, I had to take off the blazer.

It was a wonderful day of family, food, and thankfulness. And I can't WAIT to do it again tomorrow with more of the people I love! Also...in a new outfit. :) Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours--we are grateful for our customers, readers, family, and friends!

Outfit Post: The One That Got Away

If you've ever geared up for a little photo shoot only to find that your camera battery is deathly low, this post is dedicated to you.

Unfortunately, there was only enough juice (and daylight) for one shot.  Thankfully, it was a decent shot where my eyes are actually open!

I loved this little outfit, though in hindsight, it's a bit Pirate-y, isn't it?  Oh well, I like pirates. Arrrrrgh and all that.

You know what I like even better than pirates, though? THE WEEKEND!  Which is here. So I'm about to go and enjoy it, rainy though it may be.

Outfit Post: Summer's End

Hello everyone!  We had a fantastic weekend camping with the family, but after wearing the same jeans for three days in the row (and avoiding the community shower), I decided to get a little dolled up for the Labor Day holiday.  We spent the day doing a little thrifting (crazy 50% off day), grocery shopping, and dinner...and I really did indeed wear this.

My style is evolving...I have a vision of all the things I love and how they might come together. There are looks I love on other people that are just not me or don't fit my body the right way (making me feel less than confident).  I love girly and bohemian looks, but also rock and roll...so I'm taking cues from that (and a lot of back...since I'm buying and dressing on a budget, and everything black matches! ha.) to create my fall wardrobe and clean out items from my closet.  I also love that with a cap sleeve maxi dress in basic black/ivory, I can add color or cardigans/jackets/accessories and make it a totally different look.  To keep it simple, I added a vintage pendant and platform sandals.

I loved this dress on the rack, but I knew it could look a little mom-ish.  Still, it fit into the categories of the things I love, and it makes me feel comfortable and confident.  And even though it's somewhat simple, it also has the great detail on the bodice (front and back). I'm a sucker for a good detail.

Outfit Post: Modern Housewife

The print of this vintage top caught my eye at the thrift this week...I looked closer to see adorable buttons and POCKETS.  I looked even closer, and noticed the print wasn't random little dots, but fruit(!): apples, blueberries, and pears. So sweet! Literally.  Although it may go into the shop one fine day, it's mine for day.

The weather is finally cool enough for pants!  Which is fortunate, since my bike accident has left me with the most disgusting bruised and scraped legs, on top of about ten bug bites.  I also can't shave some of the scrapes, so you can imagine--it's a war zone. I'm hoping they clear up in the next few days for the beach!

I felt super cute in this outfit...even with my high platform wedges, the jeans are still pretty long, so I might have them hemmed an inch or so (thanks in advance, sis!) come fall.

The beach is so close, I can taste it!  I'm hoping to get in a couple blog updates while we're there (depending on the internet status), but I'm mostly hoping to unplug and relax!

Outfit Post: Pumpkin is the New Mustard

I am beyond ecstatic that fall is just around the corner. I'm tired of sweating, tired of mosquito bites, tired of not being able to wear some of my favorite clothes (boots and tights and blazers and cozy cardigans).  I found this perfect skirt while thrifting--the belt was included. It's 100% cotton and the most perfect shade of pumpkin orange.  It will be great for fall with some lace up wedges or even boots.  The shape is similar to the red skirt I wore last week, but it's a little bit longer, which I love.

For the hotter-than-hot Sunday that we took a daytrip to Richmond, I wore it with a little tie strap tank and some sandals.  (Also, notice my hair: the bangs are finally growing out and I did a modified version of the no-heat curls that are all the rage on Pinterest/bloggers right now.  I hate to be trendy, but damn, do they work! And they're so easy!)

We happened to decide to try out Richmond on the day of their Watermelon Festival.  It sounds like a great fortune, but really, it was just loud, and crowded, and we didn't get to do the things we wanted to.  There are some great vegan places we couldn't find and I lost my list of thrift spots.  It was so hot that we basically went into the first restaurant we came to, which had only one vegan menu item and was unfortunately way overpriced.

We really liked the area, though, and hope to do another daytrip in the fall.  Maybe I'll even wear this skirt again...

So anyway, I'm calling it right here, right now:  mustard has been all the rage the past few years, and I still love it, but pumpkin is going to be this fall's hot new color.  If only because I say so. ;)
