Outfit Post: From the Shop

People often ask where we get the pieces that we sell in our shop.  A lot of it is from thrift stores.  But sometimes we get lucky and someone will be cleaning out their attic or basement and find some old/unloved pieces that they pass along to us.  Recently my parents' neighbor lady gave me a bag of clothes that she thought I might want to try and sell.  A horrible 1980's sweater with scalloped neckline and giant shoulder pads, some old-ladyish pleated wool pants and this amazing 1970's maxi skirt that belonged to her daughter.  The other stuff went to Good Will, but this skirt went into the shop!  I borrowed it yesterday because I love it so.

This little munchkin always insists on joining me for pictures!  I love it.

top:  American Apparel T-shirt dress, skirt: from the SHOP!, belt: vintage, wedge sandals: 6pm.com

This was quite a bright look compared to my usual choice in clothing.  I would love to see the skirt paired with just a simple white tank top...that might make it a little more me.  But I'm sending it out into the world so some lucky girl can make it her own!

Splurge vs. Steal of the Day: Animal Print Maxi Skirt

This week I had one of those "thank God I'm not the only one" conversations via Twitter (with the lovely @LoLaVintage). I thought maybe I was the laziest woman in the world because some days, I look down and see my legs are prickly or downright hairy, and it's too hot outside for pants, so I find a maxi dress or skirt and throw it on rather than get in the shower and shave. Sometimes, I even wear a maxi two days in a row.

I pretty much agree with this flow chart as a guide:

Basically, every woman needs a maxi of some sort in her closet for those days.  Here are two super fun animal print version...a splurge and a Miskabelle super steal:

I actually think the bright patchwork-like pattern on the vintage version is more fun, and because the skirt is slightly narrow, it might be more flattering. If you're a size small to medium, go snag it!

And then that leg hair run free...at least for another day or two.

Outfit Post: The Max

I have still been adapting my wardrobe to a very 1950s/early 60s set of styles, mostly pure vintage with a few modern vintage silhouettes.  But the 70s still occasionally call for me, especially the maxi skirt.  I found this gorgeous accordion pleat skirt while thrifting, planned to put it in the shop, but then made the mistake of trying it on.  So comfy and a great neutral.  Plus:  if my legs are a little prickly (dammit, my leg hair grows too fast), NBD. We're covered.

This is what I wore to church and for an afternoon hanging with Q's fam. The weather here has been absolutely gorgeous and is supposed to stay that way all week.  Could this mean even more outfit posts than usual?  Maybe. But it will for sure mean more walks with Aurora and iced lattes.

Outfit details:  headscarf-vintage, tee-Threads for Thought, belt-vintage, skirt-vintage, wedges-Nine West (thrifted)

I am still in my pajamas as we speak, but the sun is shining through all the open windows, accompanied by a cool breeze.  I could get used to this.

Outfit Post: Black on Black

This black maxi skirt is one of my "summer wardrobe" purchases.  I wanted a few key pieces that I could wear a lot throughout each week, things that I felt good in and things that were easy to mix and match.  I really wanted a black maxi skirt with a high waist and I loved the super wide, foldable waistband on this skirt.  Its one downfall is that it's a bit shiny which makes it feel a bit formal for daily wear.  To par it down a bit I've been pairing it with cotton tanks and flat sandals.  My sloppy bed-head bun adds to the casualness too (no really...I rolled out of bed and added a headband.  But we'll pretend the messy look was intentional....).

tank top: Urban Outfitters (from 6 years ago!!  I only remember because I got it the summer I got married...), skirt:  Ross Dress for Less- $10!, sandals:  Dolce Vita, belt and purse:  vintage

As a side note...someone please buy this purse!  It is SO awesome!  I must admit, I've borrowed from the shop quite a few times...I would keep it but it's not very mommy friendly--I tend to need a hands free, cross-body bag these days.  I'm not sure if it doesn't come across as good in photos or what, but we are selling it for just $12!

Oh...and HAPPY FRIDAY!
