From the Shop: Vintage Weekend Wears

We are currently being spoiled by perfect weather in Virginia and I am not complaining...we are embarking on a little camping trip for one night in the Shenandoahs with our girls, so pleasant days and cool nights are just what we're looking for.  We're also planning to do some thrifting/antiquing and hit up a Peach Festival (my favorite fruit in the world!).  If I could pull this outfit from our closets (and it was all my size), this is what I'd wear this weekend:

SHOP:

I'd probably also top it off with a cute hat or some shades...when the fall comes and temperatures really drop, this would be an amazing look layered with some textured tights and a cozy long sweater!

Happy Friday, friends!

Vintage Meets Modern: Boho Style

This year, we have focused our flea market style and much of the shop on 70s bohemian styles, which we both love, and which are also hugely on-trend right now at modern stores. Spring and summer are the perfect times to bust out maxi dresses, floppy hats, high-waisted jeans, and crochet everything.  It’s also music festival season, and boho styles lend themselves well to outdoor fests because they are both cool and comfortable: what more could you want in an outfit?

Sometimes it's hard to find a good-fitting vintage piece, especially for curvier ladies! One way to get around this is to buy a vintage-style modern piece, like a maxi dress, and then pair it with vintage accessories:

The style of this printed maxi dress from rue21 is a steal! It’s flattering on every figure and super breezy for summer. We'd pair it with an orange suede vest (worn open), tooled leather belt, knee high lace up boots with a wooden heel and a funky fringed patchwork bag--all vintage!

70s styles are all the rage right now and it's easy for anyone to pull off these retro looks by mixing modern and vintage pieces.

Other easy trends for summer (and festival season!):
-palazzo pants, paired with a cropped tank, long vest, and lots of jewelry.
-jumpsuits, belted with a pair of strappy leather sandals and tons of bracelets and rings.
-floppy hats as a topper for just about any bohemian outfit (and they double as sunscreen!)

Take your modern styles and mix them up with vintage! Your wardrobe will thank you for it.

Miskabelle Vintage at District Flea 2014

We are excited that Flea season will begin again on April 5th in DC!  We got our feet wet with a month and a half of the market in the early fall, but now we're hoping to be a fairly regular presence in the spring/early summer and then again in the fall.

We have a vision for our shop this time around so things will feel cohesive...we're calling it Vintage Boho Gypsy. Think Stevie Nicks. Free People catalogs. High-waisted. Early 70s. Crochet. Florals. Buttery, worn-in leather. Maybe a floral crown or floppy hat.

Here is a little preview of what's to come...my VA studio is an absolute MESS in preparation, but I got a few shots this week:
lace tank + crochet vest + broomstick skirt + leather belt + crossbody bag...add vintage sandals or boots (we'll have those too)!

If your vibe isn't boho, but you want a little bohemian flavor, we have amazing belts and bags and some simple pieces with embroidered/crochet details that will work with any wardrobe.

prints/textures galore.

Here are the details:
District Flea
945 Florida Ave., NW (W and Florida)
10am-5pm
beginning April 5th, 2014

We hope that if you're in DC, you'll come out and see us! Mention the blog and get 20% off your purchase!

xo,
J&A
