Outfit Post: Ya Win Some, Ya Lose Some

Seems as though I have a never-ending pile of clothes, constantly growing, on top of my sewing machine.  Sometimes Often times I can't seem to give up certain pieces, even if I never wear them.  As summer comes to a close I've noticed that pile of clothes is growing.  I have so many things in my closet that I haven't worn all summer that I'm convinced would be daily staples, if tweaked just a bit.  This outfit consists of two of those pieces that I've "fixed". (and I'm really mad I forgot to take "before" photos)

THE WIN:  the top-- LOVE the crochet neckline.  But the swingy silhouette was not only wide, but super long (it used to cover my butt) and I just felt very "maternity" in it.  So I chopped the length.  In turn, a small embroidered bird on the bottom was half chopped off.  So I added these floral pieces--cut from a scrap of vintage fabric.  I love it!

THE LOSS:  the skirt-- remnants of a dress I chopped in half.  Unfortunately when I added the elastic it made the once-full/knee length bottom half a dress into a slightly-too-short-and-tight-for-an-almost-30-year-old skirt.  I might keep it to wear with tights underneath in the winter.  But I definitely changed out of it after these photos were taken!

shirt & skirt:  DIY, lacey cardigan: discount store?, bag: vintage, boots: Minnetonka, necklace: vintage

I'm glad the shirt turned out so well--it definitely gives me motivation to keep working through my pile of fixer uppers.
Do you see potential in you un-worn clothes?  Or do you immediately toss them and just buy something brand new?
