Outfit Post: 27 Weeks

Hellooooooo Third Trimester!  On Father's Day, I hit the big 2-7, which is when we begin the last leg of this baby journey. We have been so busy with end-of-school-year festivities that I've hardly had time to take it all in, but here we are!

Outfit details:  vest-DIY'ed from old jacket, dress-consignment, belt-vintage, boots-Seychelles (thrifted!)

The weather here in VA had been absolutely gorgeous (low humidity!), so we've been enjoying lots of outside time. This was an iced tea/cookie date outfit, though I admittedly wore some Converse instead of the heels so that Aurora and I could take a long walk!

The 27 Week Rundown
Baby Size:  A cauliflower!
Feeling: Sleepless/restless. My back and some RLS have been keeping me from getting too comfortable at night.  I'm also anemic, which makes me a little more tired, but now that I know, we're trying to remedy that. I passed the glucose test, so I was relieved!
Weight gain: I am officially at +6 pounds, I believe.
Cravings/Aversions:  Berries. Sour candy.  Frosted Shredded Wheat. Dark Chocolate w/ Coconut. (Yes, mostly sweet things, but trying not to overdo it!)
Preparations:  Did my glucose test! Scheduled "to-do" items on our calendar. Bought a few more cute little things (I can't resist!!!).

I have my ultrasound on Monday to make sure everything's okay for delivery. I can't wait to see our growing girl! And praying that all is well. It's not  big deal, but I have a little complication that could result in a scheduled C-section rather than a natural birth like I had with Aurora. I am at peace with it and fine with whatever happens, but it will be good to know!

Send me good vibes in utero. ha.

DIY: Denim Vest from a Denim Jacket

Of course, we're all about re-using and re-purposing around here...and the idea of re-purposing my wardrobe is one that I love, especially because I've made it a goal not to shop for the next 9 months or so (more on that in another blog).  As I dreamed of my ideal vintage pregnancy wardrobe for this summer, I knew I wanted a denim vest (the one in my collage already sold out!). Even vintage versions are a little out of my price range, and new ones can run $70+.  But if you have an old jean jacket in your closet, you can get yourself a cheap, cool vest in about 10 minutes:  it's not rocket science!

Materials
old denim jacket
scissors OR seam ripper
sandpaper (optional for distressing)
dryer (also optional for distressing step)

1.  Decide the look you want:  if you want a clean cut off, for more of a classy/preppy vest, go for the seam ripper to remove the sleeves entirely.  If you want a more distressed look with frayed edges (or, if like me, you're not patient enough to rip at the seams!), leave about a quarter inch around the seam to fray out.
2. Go for it!  Rip or cut off those sleeves!
3. I looked to Jayme's tips for distressing denim to add a little wear to my jacket.  Take the scissors (a razor would work too) and scrape some of the denim. I chose to work on places tat might get naturally frayed like the collar and pocket edges, as well as the bottom hem.
4.  Once you've done your scraping, go over it with some sandpaper, and then throw it in the dryer. This will help bring out some of the threads (as well as begin the fraying process of your sleeves if you went that direction).

Tada! That was easy. Now I have my very own denim vest for the summer, made from something I was no longer wearing. I can't wait to rock this over my sundresses...and bump. I think I may even take some time to distress it further so it has more of a vintage vibe.

Happy DIY-ing!

Sister Style: Party Attire

Here's a little look at what we wore to our mom's surprise birthday party.  Since she was in the dark about what was going on, we knew she'd show up in casual attire...so we dressed accordingly!  Totally unintentional, but we both ended up wearing skinnies, boots, a graphic shirt with a layering piece on top (Amanda-a leopard print cardigan, Jayme- a denim vest) and a long necklace.  Our hair is super similar in these photos too, both in color and length (and side swept bangs)!

top-UO (thrifted), leopard cardigan-(thrifted), black skinnies-Gap, suede boots-Aldo (Thrifted!), necklace c/o Blue Nile

vest:  Free People (formerly a jacket), shirt:  Gap, jeans: Gap, boots: Candies

We were running around, cooking, putting up decorations, etc. so we were both pretty thankful to be casual/comfortable--but with a little bit of dressy style thrown in.

Also (Amanda): I liked the outfit in person, but the shirt is wide/cropped, so I needed something to nip in at the waist more:  Lesson learned...I may be passing this top on to the teenage stepdaughters (or Jayme, if she wants it!). Oh well.

And I think that's the last of the birthday posts for now!  Holiday season is on its way and we have SO MANY fun blogs coming your way...

J&A
