Studio Space: Organization and Pretty-fying

Every once in a while I will get the itch to spruce up my "studio" (the extra bedroom in our house that is home to all my Miskabelle inventory and sewing supplies).  Sometimes that just means cleaning and putting away accumulated piles of clothes and sometimes it means rearranging furniture or even repainting.  I think that the practice of "sprucing up" your work space can be really inspiring.  Having a new-feeling space certainly makes me more excited about working--a space that is well organized and aesthetically pleasing makes me want spend time in it.
Here is my latest re-do of my studio space and how I keep my share of our 300+ items of inventory organized.  See previous tour HERE.

One big thing I did, was get rid of the giant stack of tupperware bins that most of the clothing was hidden in.  Having it out on a rolling rack makes it much easier to find things once they've sold and need sent out and it helps me see what I have and what we might need.

That tote bag on the chair is where I keep our tags and my packing tape, ink stamps, stickers, etc.  And that little cutie is in love with any and all hats...

I usually keep items that need to be measured/posted in that big basket.

My shoe inventory used to be on the floor of the closet, but once I decided to hide my remaining tupperware bins in there, they needed a new home.  I am pretty pleased with this change...such a space saver!

Fellow Etsy-sellers, how do you organize all your stuff?  It can be quite a challenge!  We would love to see your work space!

The Revamped Virginia Studio

It's finally (almost) done but I couldn't wait to share any longer.  I have been writing, measuring, blogging, singing, reading, and lounging in my studio for about two weeks now, and I couldn't be more in love with this Room of My Own.

Before I show you the final photos, here's a little reminder of what it used to look like (how I got anything done in this awful room, I will never know):

And now, may I present the brightly colored, completely redone (all on our own!) Virginia studio:

I am completely in love, and so thankful to my beyond-amazing husband who did so much of this work himself!  He designed the whole desk/pegboard area, using reclaimed closet doors (yay for upcycling!), built all the shelves, hand cut and stained the floor trim, and helped me paint, clean and do a lot of heavy lifting.  This room wouldn't have been possible without him and his endless patience for me as I browsed for the perfect light/rug/table/etc. Having someone who not only supports your dreams, but does everything in his power to make them happen is the key to a fulfilling life (in my humble opinion). I love you, Q!

For everything in the room, all the paint, wood, etc. we spent less than $550. This included all new flooring, paint, trim, two industrial rolling racks, shelving, pegboard, furniture, and almost all the accessories.  Of course, the cost of labor was $0 since this was most definitely a labor of love.

I am still waiting to purchase some wall hooks/hangers for the vintage purses in the studio, which will go on the back wall where the single purse is hanging--we are hoping to do vintage hooks or vintage doorknobs.  I'll post an update once it's really, really done.

I hope you enjoyed the sneak peek!  My new space has already made me way more productive and happy, and I hope I can spread that on to you. :)

Progress.

Well, here we are. a month past my birthday and Q and I are steadily chipping away at the studio.  When you don't have 24 hours a day to work on it, you get in what you can when you can. We've had several late nights and busy nap times, but the biggest work is DONE!  Here is a sneak peek--you can see the wall color, a bit of the flooring and the upcycled light fixture...hoping to have everything complete by the end of March!

Patching walls and ripping out carpet...how creeeeepy do I look with that mask?
Paint is just about done!  Peek:  look at the pretty blue light on the ceiling!
Paint is done!  Now, laying the floors.  Not a ton of fun on cold concrete.

So that is where we are! I am getting so excited to have a space to call my own, for business and writing and  music practice.  It seriously makes a difference, having a "room of your own."

xo,
Amanda
