Now Channeling: Ali Macgraw in Love Story

I have certain movies and shows that I watch for certain seasons.  Even though I no longer have to "go back to school", when autumn rolls around I tend to gravitate towards collegiate movies/TV shows (Felicity, St. Elmo's Fire, etc.).  "Love Story" is another one of those movies.  The 1970's flick is, well, a love story, about a wealthy Harvard student and a working class girl who meet in college and fall for each other despite their different backgrounds.  The movie is a sad one, but if you're in the mood for a tearjerker, you should check it out.  Ali Macgraw's character, Jenny, has the classic parted-in-the-middle long locks and her wardrobe is full of cozy fall knits and wool coats.

Of course, to get Jenny's look, you can grab up some authentic vintage.  Here are some Etsy finds that will do just the trick:
1.  1970's Jonathan Logan collared dress via Larkspur Shoppe
2.  toffee leather campus boots via Scottiena Canoe
3.  wool bucket hat via Rapscallion Vintage
4.  camel peacoat via Miskabelle Vintage
4.  1970's cream turtleneck sweater via Zinnia Ridge Vintage
5.  red plaid Pendleton skirt via Dronning

Wool coats, turtleneck sweaters, leather boots and plaid accessories...sounds divine, right?
It definitely serves as great outfit inspiration for the cool fall weekend ahead.  Be sure to stop by our booth at the District Flea, if you're in the area!

Now Channeling: Liv Tyler in Stealing Beauty

There are so many reasons I love the movie Stealing Beauty...first off, it's 90's good-ness, second, it takes place in Italy, and third, it stars Liv Tyler.  If you haven't seen this movie, you must!  It is romantic and sexy and just easy on the eyes.  A perfect summer evening flick.  Liv Tyler plays Lucy, an angst-filled/love-crazy teen who goes to stay with family friends in Tuscany for the summer.  Her wardrobe is pretty much perfection.

I've scoured Etsy for some vintage pieces that will get you Liv's look (the gorgeous dark hair and perfect pout are unfortunately, not included).

Now excuse me while I go daydream that I'm frolicking on the Tuscan countryside...

Now Channeling: Audrey Tautou in Amélie

The movie Amélie was released in 2001, but Audrey Tautou's character has an undeniable 1940's vibe-- from her pageboy haircut to her polka dot blouses and classic trench coats.  The film is quirky and romantic and those qualities are reflected in Amélie's clothing as well.

Every time I see this movie, I fall in love with it again (I came across it flipping through channels the other night and have watched [bits and pieces of it] it twice since!).  I could never pull off Audrey Tautou's baby-bangs haircut but I would love to steal her pretty lace skirts and chunky Doc Martens....and wear them while gallivanting around Paris of course!  Here are some Etsy vintage finds that will help you channel Audrey Tautou in Amélie:

1. hunter green trench coat via Bottega Vintage
2.  oval sunglasses via retro focals
3.  garden gnome via West Wind Home Garden (this isn't really part of her "style"...
you'll just have to watch the film to see what the story behind the gnome is!)
4.  deep red lace skirt via Shop Vintage Minnie
5.  black and white polka dot blouse via rock this vintage
6.  maroon polka dot 40's dress via Miskabelle Vintage
7.  chunky black oxfords via 20 twenty vintage

If you haven't seen this movie-- you must change that!!  It is full of beautiful scenery and beautiful music and a lovely story about a girl who just happens to have a pretty amazing style. ; )

Now Channeling: Kate Hudson as "Penny Lane"

There aren't many movies that I actually OWN and am willing to watch multiple times, but Almost Famous is definitely in my top 5 favorites and every time I watch it, I find myself coveting Penny Lane's (played by Kate Hudson) 1970's groupie style and messy, curly locks.  I would totally rock any and all of her wardrobe...but most likely I'd add a bra.

Want to steal Penny's look?  Here are some Etsy vintage finds that will do the trick!
1.  fur coat with oversized collar (iconic!) via VeraVague
2.  lace cropped tank top (such a versatile piece) via DJVV
3. high waisted bell bottoms (CLASSIC) via TheVelvetMoon
4.  embroidered peasant top via Petrune
5.  suede mini skirt via 00VOL000
6.  lucite box purse (in the movie, she totally uses a tackle box
as a purse... this is a little more wearable I think!)  via vintagenowandthen
7.  leather knee high boots (VERY "Penny") via twinheartsvintage
8.  round wire rim sunglasses via Raybanicos
9.  platform sandals via ManicVintage

Puts you in the mood to curl up and watch Almost Famous this weekend, huh?  Happy Friday!

Now Channeling: Winona Ryder in Reality Bites

The other weekend I was flipping through the channels --okay, so it was like, 9 o'clock on a Saturday night-- and was presently surprised to find Reality Bites was playing.  Though I've already seen it too many times to count, I got sucked in  once again and watched the whole thing (much to my husband's dismay).  By the end of the movie I was dreaming of chopping my hair off--a'la Leilana's messy bed-head, wearing dark red lipstick and living in floral maxi dresses and mary janes.

Want to get Winona a.k.a. Leilana's look?  Here are some Etsy finds that fit the bill:

1.  Tapestry vest via urbandames (to be worn while dancing to "My Sharona" in a gas station)
2.  Chambray shirt dress via Miskabelle  (but this one's not from The Gap...)
3.  Round wayfarers via twinheartsvintage (because you *may* have been up all night, chatting on the psychic hotline)
4.  Floral maxi dress via shopCOLLECT
5.  Vintage Coke t-shirt via 10thAvenueEast
6.  Pleated chiffon dress via mintmarypea (no, you will NOT look like a doily in this)
7.  Black mary janes via 33vintage

If you haven't seen this movie, you HAVE to remedy that like, now.  Here's a little taste...
