CLOSED. Interview and Giveaway: Drunken Mermaid Oddities

This giveaway is now closed, but stay tuned for a brand new giveaway starting later today!

With a name like "Drunken Mermaid," how could you NOT love this Etsy shop?!  It's your very own sunken treasure chest full of unique handmade and vintage goodies.  Come along with us and get to know Anna, the shop's owner.  We promise that she'll share some of her booty.  (No, the PIRATE kind, silly. )

Meet Anna of Drunken Mermaid Oddities
(and wish her a happy birthday...it happens to coincide this week with her giveaway and interview!!!)

--What does your life outside of Etsy/blogging look like?

Life is pretty great! I live with my boyfriend Aaron along with Judy, my cat. I work full time at a print shop and cater part time. During my time off you can find me at my craft table listening to records, and on weekends Aaron and I venture off to estate sales, flea markets, etc. I love searching for vintage items. We have a whole
cabinet full of our finds. You could consider me a picker of sorts, I love digging for treasure.

--Describe yourself (or ask someone else to do it!) in three words.
I asked my friends to describe me…. “Badass butthole” said one.
And “facetious and resourceful” said another.

--Fall piece you can’t live without:
My maroon zip up hoodie. The jacket is 3 years old, the cuffs are frayed and holey… and the zipper pull fell off… but it’s my favorite! I’ve bought several jackets since but I keep going back to it. It’s the best.

--Most recent fashion-related purchase:
I recently found some brand new faded black skinny jeans at the local thrift store. Tags and everything! They
fit perfect. They go great with everything.

--Do you craft/make anything else outside of what’s in your shop?
I havealways been an artist. I have drawn my whole life. I’m a pen and ink kind of person. I like that I can’t erase what I’ve done and just have to work with the mistakes. I’m also a secret writer, as in no one is allowed to see. In addition to writing in secret, I love to play guitar, the Lowrey Genie organ (look it up its awesome!!), and the Korg synthesizer. Making music is one of my escapes. Whether playing it or listening to it, I love being able to wrap myself into something that gets my whole body to participate. The urge to dance is a given, I’m a dancer. I also love to bake. I get super excited around the holidays; it gives me excuses to bake. I would love to tell you about how generous I am and give away the goods as gifts, but I don’t. I eat them ALL
and give Aaron very few. He doesn’t enjoy this, but I’m a dessert monster. Ask anybody.

--Any pet peeves?
I hate when people whistle along to a song that has no whistling. Like the whole song they whistle. Off key mind you. Ah horrible.

--Bad habits?
I tend to procrastinate, but I do work well under stress so it ends up working out.

--Desert-island food?
Velveeta Macaroni and cheese

--Three bands/singers you can’t get enough of:

Slayer
Tesco Vee and the Meatkrew
B52’s

--What made you decide to start a shop?
In May, I quit my job. I wanted to do something I enjoyed for once. Sick and tired of answering to the man I decided to do what I love, what I was good at. So I started making jewelry and other things to sell. I plan on expanding one day and opening a store somewhere awesome.

--Significance of your shop name?
I had heard a local bar owner was thinking of opening a nautical bar. I didn’t tell them my idea was Drunken
Mermaid for a nautical bar name, and thank god I didn’t, it turned into my Etsy store!

--Favorite item in your shop right now:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/59423226/secrets-of-the-forest-bracelet

I love my new bracelet “Secrets of the Forest”. Several of the charms I wanted to keep for
myself. Although I end up wanting to keep everything I make!

Ahoy, mateys!  We're not done yet.  The lovely Anna is giving away one of her one-of-a-kind pieces to a lucky reader (of course).
