My favorite piece is the Swallow's Return Locket,

http://www.etsy.com/listing/56912207/swallows-return-locket

but it took me about 10 minutes to settle on that one. :) I really love all her jewelry and am so curious about some of the Biblical descriptions/implications, especially of the Mizpah bracelets. As a religious studies nerd, jewelry w a relationship to religion is always fascinating.

I follow you on Twitter and Bloglovin'. YAY!

CLOSED. Interview and Giveaway: Stella Saves the Day

This giveaway is now closed....stay tuned for a winner, and our next very awesome giveaway TOMORROW!   xo

We're excited to introduce you to Jennifer, of the gorgeous Etsy shop Stella Saves the Day.

Her handmade jewelry is well crafted and unique with a vintage feel, and she's giving away one of her very special pieces to one lucky reader.  Keep reading!

Meet Jennifer, the Brooklyn-based owner and designer.
--What does your life outside of Etsy/blogging look like (career, family, love, whatever you want to share!)?
My husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary on October 10th, and I can’t believe that the year went so fast!  We are both creative people, so we both understand the need to work on our stuff apart from our day jobs. We both have a lot on our plates!  We try our best to keep weekends free to spend time together and with our Shih-Tzu, Nina.  She keeps us laughing!
Both my parents and my in-laws are very supportive and encouraging to us, and that really helps…thanks everybody! xoxo
--Describe yourself (or ask someone else to do it!) in three words.
kind, positive, happy
--Fall piece you can’t live without:
My second-hand tan leather boots and my vintage leather jacket (sorry, that’s two!)
--Most recent fashion-related purchase:
A lovely hand-knit hat from an Etsy crafter
--Do you craft/make anything else outside of what’s in your shop?
I am not currently working on my fine artwork, but I made drawings using human hair for about 10 years.  That is actually what got me started on making lockets with inserts in them—the Victorians saved locks of hair that belonged to lost loved ones and made jewelry from it.  That fascinated me to no end.  I am considering doing a line of custom lockets using hair that people send me.
--Any pet peeves?
People that hold the subway doors open when the train is trying to leave
--Bad habits?
Biting my nails!!!
--Desert-island food?
Tiramisu (dessert is the most important course)
--Three bands/singers you can’t get enough of:
My husband, Ronnie Shingelo, who is an amazing singer/songwriter
David Bowie—my favorite since I was a teenager
Arcade Fire
--Another blog you follow regularly (link us!):
Scoutie Girl—Tara Gentile rocks!!!  I won a free biz consult with her and she was so helpful!
--What made you decide to start a shop?
I love working with my hands and I adore jewelry—I always have and always will.  I found that making sculpture (which I went to school for) wasn’t working for me anymore for various reasons.  I want to eventually be able to quit my day job and work full time at my business.
--Significance of your shop name?
Both my maternal great-grandmother and a great aunt were named Stella. I like the positivity and sound of Stella Saves the Day…it rolls off the tongue nicely!
--Favorite item in your shop right now (link us!)
The Swallow’s Return Locket is my favorite piece—my hand-embroidered lockets are my favorites because a lot of love and time go into them.  The idea that swallows always return home every year is so poetic and inspiring to me.

Would you like to win a piece of stellar (ha) Stella Saves the Day jewelry?  Jennifer is generously giving away a set of Friendship Coin Mizpah Charm Bracelets.

From the Etsy shop listing:  In Victorian times, loved ones would exchange Mizpah coin jewelry when they knew that they might be separated for a time. The coin halves, when placed side by side read a quote from the book of Genesis: "The Lord watch between me and thee while we are absent one from another."

The bangles are solid brass and are oval shaped. The inner dimensions are 2 1/8" by 2 3/4". Vintage lucite channel-set crystals and a tiny trio of vintage glass red beads dangle beside the vintage coin charms. Please note, the metal headpins that hold the red vintage glass beads show signs of age, which adds to their charm.  You will receive the set of two.
