This week, I have the good fortune to have already known a lot about our lovely Etsy lady, Kasey. We met at church/youth group oh-so-many-years ago. She's one of those gals who you're always like, "Dang, why didn't I hang out with ____________ more?" She is cute, stylish, SUPER-talented with the crafties, and sure to make you laugh.
Meet our friend Kasey of Kayemkay
--What does your life outside of Etsy/blogging look like?
My life outside seems to look a lot like my life inside. I love creating. My favorite thing to do is to take something (especially old and unloved things) and make it into something else. I love the process that takes place when a flat piece of fabric becomes capable of hugging a body. I love clothing my family, friends and ladies (soon adding gents and babies!!) on etsy. I also love to teach people how to sew. I showed my sister how to sew clutches and it gives me such joy when she shows me what she’s done. (www.ayeemkay.etsy.com) Apart from sewing, I like to make my life look like a Martha Stewart Living magazine, decorating, cooking and creating. Most of all, like a true sap, I like to spend time with my husband; hiking, movies, cooking, napping, etc.
--Describe yourself (or ask someone else to do it!) in three words.
From the lips of my husband, John: excited. silly. scattered.
--Fall piece you can’t live without: Well, truly. I love my gray fleece “joy” jacket. I wear it nearly everyday.
--Most recent fashion-related purchase: The last time I went out, I went to town on a fall collection. (A second hand store. I’m a sucker for deals.) I bought 3 jackets, a houndstooth bomber coat, 2 batwing sweaters and a pair of gray plaid flats. (All for $90!!)
--Do you craft/make anything else outside of what’s in your shop?
I’ve made leather earrings, rosette hair accessories, cards/paper crafts, simple quilts, crochet, writing, pillows, reupholstered furniture, paintings, and pottery... I like to try everything. When John said I was “scattered”, he wasn’t kidding. I’d also like to try woodworking and chainsaw carving. My grandfather is a chainsaw artist and I’ve always thought it would be really fun to try.
--Any pet peeves? Being interrupted, physically. Like, if I’m in the middle of cooking, or sewing, I have a really hard time stopping the thought processes to talk or change the laundry. I like to work until it’s done.
--Bad habits? I think the above counts.
--Desert-island food? Peanut butter.
--Three bands/singers you can’t get enough of: Blind Pilots, Sleeping at Last, Guster
--Another blog you follow regularly :

My dear friend Janis always has really charming posts.

--What made you decide to start a shop? A friend of mine told me about Etsy and I decided to give it a go. I listed totes and upcycled dresses. The first thing I sold was to a friend for his little sister.
--Significance of your shop name? kay.em.kay means K.M.K. which are my maiden initials. I’ve heard people confuse it with meaning “okay, hmm, okay.” which I don’t like... but it’s too late to change it now. I have 800 labels to use! ha.
--Favorite item in your shop right now the arbutina coat (at left)
